In Numbers 21 we read about a bizarre incident where God sent fiery snakes to the camp of Israel as punishment for their grumblings. The Israelites wanted God to take the snakes away from them – however God had another plan. God instructed Moses to set a brass snake on a pole and said that whoever looks at it will be cured from the poisonous snake bite. When Jesus was talking to a religious leader some 1500 years later – He uses this account as an example of Himself. We too are infected – not by a snake bite – but with sin. We need to look to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus for us to be made spiritually well.
